Ceramic Technology and Mural Design Program

The Ceramic Technology and Mural Design Program is a specialized academic program designed to prepare qualified professionals equipped with theoretical knowledge, artistic skills, and technical competencies in ceramics and mural design by integrating traditional artistic practices with modern design and production technologies. The program focuses on the study of the properties of clay, pottery, and ceramic materials, their preparation and processing methods, manual and mechanical forming techniques, and firing and glazing processes. These areas of study enable students to produce high-quality functional and artistic ceramic works that meet contemporary aesthetic and technical requirements.

The program has been introduced in response to the growing need for specialists in ceramic technology and mural design, while supporting the creative industries and preserving Palestinian artistic heritage. The program is considered one of the pioneering academic programs in Palestine in the field of Ceramic Technology and Mural Design. It is distinguished as the only academic program in Palestine offering a bachelor's degree in Ceramic Technology and Mural Design as an independent specialization, reflecting its academic leadership and national role in preparing specialized professionals, promoting research and artistic production, and meeting labor market needs in ceramics and applied arts. The program combines specialized academic education with intensive practical training and provides an integrated learning environment supported by specialized workshops and laboratories equipped with advanced technologies. This enables students to gain practical experience and develop creative projects that serve the community and reinforce Palestinian cultural identity through contemporary artistic and technological approaches.

The program places particular emphasis on mural design and execution as a major field of applied arts closely connected to architecture and interior and exterior spaces. Students acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to design and execute murals using various materials and techniques while incorporating digital tools and modern design software into concept development and artistic production. Graduates may also pursue careers in teaching art education in public schools under the Ministry of Education and in private schools, in accordance with applicable regulations and requirements.

Program Mission

To prepare creative graduates equipped with the theoretical knowledge, artistic skills, and technical competencies required in ceramics and mural design and execution through an educational environment that integrates theoretical knowledge, studio-based practice, research, and experimentation.

The program seeks to develop students’ skills in artistic forming, design, and working with various clays, materials, glazes, and ceramic and mural techniques, alongside the integration of technology and contemporary media. It aims to foster students’ independent artistic identities, enhance their ability to produce artistic and functional ceramic works and mural projects that engage with space, culture, and society, and prepare them for professional practice and the labor market.

Program Objectives

1. To prepare qualified graduates equipped with fundamental theoretical, historical, aesthetic, and scientific knowledge related to ceramics, mural arts, and fine arts.

2. To develop students’ skills in ceramic design and forming, enabling them to utilize hand-building methods, techniques, tools, and equipment associated with ceramic production.

3. To equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to work with clays, materials, glazes, ceramic colors, and firing processes, and to understand their artistic and technical properties and potential.

4. To develop students’ abilities to design and execute murals using diverse ceramic and artistic materials, methods, and techniques while considering their relationship with architecture, space, and site.

5. To enable students to apply the elements and principles of design, color, texture, form, volume, surface, and space in the development of ceramic and mural artworks.

6. To promote research and experimentation with materials, techniques, surface treatment methods, and firing processes, encouraging students to develop innovative artistic and technical solutions.

7. To integrate technology and contemporary digital tools and techniques into the design, development, visualization, production, and presentation of ceramic artworks and mural projects.

8. To foster creative and critical thinking and the ability to develop artistic concepts and transform them into ceramic artworks and mural projects that integrate aesthetic, technical, and functional values.

Upon successful completion of the requirements of the Ceramic Technology and Mural Design Program, students are expected to be able to achieve the following learning outcomes:

The Department of Music and Fine Arts offers a Bachelor's Degree Program in Ceramic Technology and Mural Design. Students are awarded a Bachelor's Degree in Ceramic Technology and Mural Design upon successful completion of all requirements of the approved study plan.

To obtain the degree, students must successfully complete 125 credit hours, distributed among compulsory and elective university requirements, compulsory and elective faculty requirements, and program requirements, in accordance with the approved study plan.
