The Palestinian Prime Minister, Dr. Salam Fayyad, inaugurated the Annual Fine Art Exhibition and Salah Al-Masri Award for Artistic Creativity ceremony in which distinguished fine art students were honored. Attendees to the inauguration event included Prof. Rami Hamdallah, President of An-Najah, Brigadier Jibrin Al-Bakri, Governor of Nablus, Engineer Adli Yaish, Mayor of Nablus, Mrs. Asma’ Al-Masri, Sponsor of Salah Al-Masri Award, and Dr. Hasan N’erat, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts at An-Najah.
Prior to the opening of the Exhibition, a special award distribution ceremony was held at Prince Turki Bin Abdul Aziz Theater, New Campus, during which the winners of Salah Al-Masri Award for Artistic Creativity for the year 2012 were honored. Dr. N’erat delivered a speech in which he welcomed the guests and valued Dr. Fayyad’s support and participation in the event, and thanked Prof. Hamdallah for his continuous support of the Faculty and the Award.
He added that the University’s administration has always been interested in supporting all kinds of activities that the Faculty of Fine Arts holds which target the students and seek the development of their skills and experience. The University’s efforts to provide the Faculty with all needed equipment have contributed to the development of teaching and work at the Faculty.
Prof. Hamdallah welcomed Dr. Fayyad and thanked him for his interest in attending this event and meeting the students. “We at An-Najah National University have been committed to supporting art based on our belief in the power of art and its role in life. To achieve this, the University has worked hard to provide the Faculty with the different equipment and academic programs that would ensure its development and the well-being of its students. The University also supports all kinds of extracurricular activities that the Faculty of Fine Arts implements which aim to help the students develop their skills and expands their experience in the various fields of fine art.” Prof. Hamdallah said.
Mrs. Al-Masri thanked Prof. Hamdallah for supporting Salah Al-Masri Award and valued the efforts made by the staff at the Faculty of Fine Arts to bring this event to life.
Dr. Fayyad expressed impression by the achievements that An-Najah has made and the outstanding level of creativity and excellence that its students have reached. He also said that the focus on building the students’ creative power and potentials will yield significant results that would enable them to contribute to the development of their society. Furthermore, he congratulated the winners of the Award and pointed out that such activities build the students’ sense of competition and pursuit of excellence in their work.
Following the Award distribution ceremony, Dr. Fayyad and the attendees inaugurated the Fine Art Exhibition where the many works and projects of the Faculty’s students were showcased.
The Exhibition consisted of five different corners the first of which was dedicated to interior design that included models and drawings made by the students. The second corner displayed projects made by the Graphic Design students. The third one was the Painting corner which included more than 120 different paintings that were produced by the students using different techniques and materials.
The fourth corner was the visual arts one which included mosaic works, tile-decorated artwork, and more than 45 different works of art that were made using different materials, while the fifth corner showcased ceramic work which the students prepared also using different materials and techniques.
